Through the Lens {May}

At the beginning of the year I decided to join my friends Greta and Alison and their year-long photography project called Through The Lens Thursday. You don’t need a blog to join in, just join our Flickr group and post each week! It’s great for practicing photography in a low pressure, fun way.

This month our prompts for Through the Lens were: Three Things, Dream, Empty, Street, and Home

I used my 50mm for all of them.

It’s been fun to get outside and take photos that aren’t in the dang house, and I can’t wait until the summer months so I can bust out my new zoom lens and see what I can snap!

So what do you think?

About Katie

Just a small town girl...wait no. That is a Journey song. Katie Sluiter is a small town girl, but she is far from living in a lonely world. She is a middle school English teacher, writer, mother, and wife. Life has thrown her a fair share of challenges, but her belief is that writing through them makes her stronger.

  1. Really great shots, Katie! I can’t wait to see your June photos!

  2. I love them!
Being outside is an exciting new development for us too, after that crazylong winter. (That’s a word, right? 🙂 )

  3. Love these! I want that little bowl in your dream photo! So perfect. And your home photo makes me so happy. Just like home does 🙂

  4. I can’t wait to hear how you like your zoom lens. I’ve always been curious about them and how the pictures turn out. What is the home one from, school? I love the street shot from down in the grass! (I’m behind and sort of forgot about my post yesterday. Whoops)

    • the home one is at home…our front stoop/welcome mat 🙂

I’m excited to learn about my zoom too. I might take a little class on how to use it.

  5. I love your welcome mat! I really want it. I’ve been looking for the perfect welcome mat for a while, and just haven’t found it yet.

  6. that second photo REALLY is so great Katie. And I love the murals as well. You are doing great – nice work, my friend! 🙂

  7. I just want a real camera. You make me want a real camera more.

  8. I love the “hello” photo…is that your doormat? I’d turn that into some type of card and mail a note to someone just for funsies.

I really like the photo of your classroom…maybe brighten it up a bit and make in black and white. You could hang it up in your classroom or at home.

All of these are well done though and hooray for getting out of the house!

  9. great shots — especially that first one. I love the “art” of the graffiti buildings. The hearts in the dish are perfect for that prompt.
Can’t wait to see what you capture with that zoom lens! I love mine.
