Cortney has been telling me for about a year that Charlie needed a haircut. I brushed it off until he made me a deal that he wouldn’t insist on a haircut if I agree that one will need to happen around Charlie’s second birthday (Eddie’s haircut was when he was two. Granted he was bald until he was almost one, but still).
Yesterday (Monday) was haircut day.
I have been thinking about it way WAY more than I should.
It’s just hair after all, right?
Before I was a mom I just didn’t get what the fuss was about baby’s first haircut. It’s JUST HAIR.
I regretfully take back all my know-it-all-ness.
And give you Charlie’s Hairy Timeline….

Charlie was born with what appeared to be pre-styled senator hair. Dapper little Bird. My nephew said it was as soft as feathers.

Around six months he was back the style. My mom swore I was cutting it to the perfect style on the sly. I was not.

Just before Christmas people started to comment that it was getting a bit long. So naturally I fell in love with it.
I am…not Ok yet.
But I will be.
For whatever reason the first haircut is the hardest.
I already told Cortney if there is a hint of curl after we wash it, you know I won’t be getting it cut for another six months…at least. Because I already miss burying my nose in those soft curls.
Especially because his hair smelled like cheese tonight after dinner.
You can see his gorgeous eyes & nom-able cheeks better (Trying to think positive for you!)!
There is definitely something about that first haircut. Loss of baby-dom or something. It’s just hard. He looks fabulously adorable before & after though!
Aw, I love his curls, they were beautiful!
I know how it feels with the haircut. It’s so….. milestone-y.
I do like his new look however. He’s still adorable.
I love that “hey girl” pic. SO sweet!
Hair is HARD. I had to let go of my oldest’s curls. And while I loved his long, shaggy hair, and his curls never came back, he looked SO handsome in short hair – but it aged him too.
I totally get it. Hope you start loving the cut soon! He’s adorable!
My son was bald until after age 1 and we let his hair go until just after his second birthday. He was full-on mad scientist then! But the stylist didn’t really apparently understand “big boy haircut” and gave him a bowl cut, seriously he looked like Hayley Mills in The Parent Trap. Now my MIL does it and it’s awesome.
Such beautiful boys! I loved my son’s curls and let them grow until he was 2. I have some locks somewhere in his baby book… 🙂
I totally understand what you are going through. I have one son who has the curliest, the cutest hair and I never want to cut it, ever. We’ve trimmed it over the years and like you, it’s hit me hard. He’s almost 8 now and all he wants in life is a buzz cut. What???? I told him he can do that when he’s a grown up. lol.
My oldest did not get his hair cut until he was 3.. I sent Dad to go with him the heartbreak was too much for me. Like yours he had ringlets. Middle guy had stick straight hair not a curl to be seen and cutting his was a necessity it was so stick straight, it wouldn’t even comb back or over the side for any reason.. Now that he is older he is curly. Baby had more curls than older and even our hairstylist cried cutting them. The only reason I did was we could not get a comb through his hair because it looked like a spiral perm naturally. He is now the only one who prefers his hair shorter the other 2 keep it kinda long because women love the curls lol.
What a little man. Seriously adorbs, curls or no curls.
I will not judge you those tears one bit — because just above the sight line of the top of my laptop is a picture of my firstborn – boy – in all his curly blond glory. And he was past age 2.
And I may have kept that first curl that dropped to the floor.
I confess nothing. 🙂
He’s so cute I can hardly stand it. With and without the curls.
I like this post, Charlie is cute.
