just a day…

A glimpse at what a typical Wednesday is like for me…

the drive in to work. coffee and some loud music. preferably rap.

my "cubical" awaits

students working, teacher working. the view from my desk.

where a quick copy ALWAYS takes my whole planning period. copy machine FAIL.

just imagine full of kids. I was too lazy to blur out faces.

must be after 2:30! Kids are gone!

as much as I love my job? BEST. PART. OF. THE. DAY. (this was around 3:40pm)

Eddie and I get home and watch Daddy scarf some chow before his class.

Can you tell which items Eddie chose for our dinner? hint: ALL of them.

Our Mommy/Eddie night treat this week? Popcorn in our jammies with Loony Tunes.

poop break. actually...third poop break. the first two were on the toilet. this did not make it there.

we end the night with a little Dr. Seuss before bed.

Conversation tid bits from the evening:

While munching popcorn…

me: this is fun!  thanks for having popcorn with me, Eddie.

Eddie: yeah.  good times.

While Eddie takes poop break the first on his potty…

me:  how’s it going in there?

Eddie:  fine. don’t look at me.

After finishing our books and while laying in the dark snuggling in his big boy bed…

me: Hey Eddie?  Thank for being my buddy tonight.

Eddie:  Thanks you for mine big buddy tonight.

Yeah…I like our nights together.

Even if he did cry for his daddy right before falling asleep.

And even if the entire upstairs smells like a turd from all his dumps…

We don’t have many just mommy and Eddie time left.  At least not for quite a while.

So I think I will soak it up.

About Katie

Just a small town girl...wait no. That is a Journey song. Katie Sluiter is a small town girl, but she is far from living in a lonely world. She is a middle school English teacher, writer, mother, and wife. Life has thrown her a fair share of challenges, but her belief is that writing through them makes her stronger.

  1. JDaniel has just discoved Loony Tunes too. He just announced Bugs is not a nice bunny. I think he is right.

  2. That sounds like a great day to me! Enjoy those mommy/Eddie moments while you can.

  3. Love this! Sounds like a full day of all the things you love. And i’m jealous you have an “office” with a door and a name plate – maybe I’ll craft one to hang outside my den 😉 And the convo’s with a toddler a priceless they say the best stuff!

  4. Aside from the poop (where the hell do toddlers get all of that from? I eat a fiber-rich diet, and my kids eat, mostly, crap, but they crap a TON more than I do), that doesn’t sound too bad at all . . . though it cracks me up that you listen to rap, loudly.

I used to . . . and then, um, I just stopped. Now I listen to NPR (although, truthfully, most mornings I spend on a conference call as I drive into the office . . . so maybe listening to rap, loudly, will make those go by a little more quickly).

  5. Hee hee…you said turd.

  6. I just love this post. Eddie is a pretty funny little man.

I also love the “Let’s eat grandma” sign on the door. I could really use some help in the puncuation department. I tend to overuse or misuse punctuation.

  7. 2:30 is FOR SURE the best part of the work day! lil Duck taking a duce always cracks me up. She is hysterical. I love this age. Soak up as much as you can!

  8. Oh, the alone time. It’s so fleeting, especially once #2 arrives. For me, with three, it’s immensely difficult. They all want attention. They all have something to say. I sometimes rely on my husband to just pack up two and leave me with one for a few hours. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s so very sweet. And 2:30. I WISH my computer was logging off at 2:30. And I’m giggling b/c only one of two of Z’s poops wound up in the correct place this week too.

  9. Nice day in the life! Soak it up while you can!

  10. I like your day!

And don’t worry, you will have more Mommy and Eddie times. I used to be scared that I would never get to have any time alone with Hayden once the triplets were born but we did. It took a while and more of an effort but Hayden and I have special mommy and me time together.

  11. What a lovely way to end your day.

Cherish all the time you have with just one little, but even when the second one comes you will still have plenty more of Mommy and Eddie times. I still sneak away with my B for just us time together. But now? I also get to sneak away with C for time alone with him.

  12. i’m so jealous that he poops on the pot! we can’t get louise to do it to save our lives.

  13. Love it, especially Eddie’s dinner. Looks just like Lucas’.

I also like the logging off at 3:40. Lucky duck!

  14. I loved this. And I’m definitely pregnant because that line about there not being much just Eddie and Mommy time left made me tear up. So sweet, enjoy every second.

  15. Love this. Seeing the classroom gives me flashbacks to when I was a teacher a LOOOOOONG time ago in a land far away. Makes me miss it a smidge. But only a smidge. 😉

  16. Where oh where did you get that “cupcandy” wrap? LOVE!
