First Product Review: Don’t Forget the SPF

I tend to obsess about keeping my skin covered in SPF. It wasn’t always this way, but since I can now see VISIBLE SIGNS OF AGING (as they love to say in all the skincare commercials in the world), I realize that tanning? Not so great for my skin.

While any old sun block usually does the trick on my body, it’s SO hard for me to find something for my face. As a teenager, I had AWFUL skin. It’s still super combination-y. After a good washing it is usually totally dried out, but after wearing any sort of moisturizer and then make-up? It’s an oily mess. So I was a little hesitant to try Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Liquid Daily sunblock.

The first day, I took a shower and then applied the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid daily sunblock to my face. Only a tiny amount is needed to cover my whole face. This is a bonus because I don’t like feeling as if my face sun block gets used up in a week. It’s also not thick like a typical SPF. It’s just like a light-weight facial moisturizer. At this point my skepticism was fading a bit, but I figured by mid-day I would still have my typical oil slick on face.

I should not here that I didn’t wear make-up this day because let’s face it, unless we momma’s have somewhere to go, the make-up stays in the drawer. I did however sit outside with my book during Eddie’s nap for about just over an hour. Yes, I would be jealous of me too, don’t worry.

Anyway, like the winner that I am, I didn’t think about putting sunblock anywhere else on my body. When I came in after an hour, my legs were a little crispy, but my face was not, which is awesome. But the really great part was, even though I had been sitting outside, my face was not greasy OR oily. Definitely a first for me!
Being the realist (read: pessimist) that I am, I figured it was just because I wasn’t wearing make-up. The next day, I applied the same amount of the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid daily sunblock, and then also applied my make-up (which is just usually a powder foundation, some eyeliner, and some gloss). I did my errands for the morning and took a walk/jog around the neighborhood later in the day.

To my HUGE surprise, my face was NOT oily. Not even with the make-up and the sweat from the jog!
So far, only three days in to this trial, I am pretty impressed with this product, and I intend to keep on using it. We will see how it holds up to the beach days we have planned in the upcoming weeks!

She’ Crafty…And She’s Just My Type!

Today I brought home this treasure!  My friend, Whitney, made this tote for me with Eddie’s initial on it!  She is also in the process of making me a SUPER cute camera strap cover for my boring Canon Rebel strap.  She does SUCH cute work!  Check her out!  She takes pictures, she makes totes, shirts, camera strap covers, key fobs, and more!

She’s definitely crafty, and I definitely love her!

Very exciting!

Surprise!

This has seriously been the best dang birthday EVER! A trip to Chicago with some of my best friends, a super fun evening and great gifts from my momma-in-law, and now a huge birthday surprise from my parents and Cortney: a new super awesome canon rebel xs camera! I was blown away by this gift! Good thing I have friends (many, thank goodness!) who know how to work such a “professional” camera (professional compared to the turd stick camera I’ve BEEN using), and who can help me get acquainted with my new friend! Hmmm…I may have to hit up my crafty friend, Whitney, for a little customized camera strap. And maybe get some tips from my photog friend, Missy, (or one of my other super creative photo crazed friends) who also uses a canon. And of COURSE I will have to completely scour the internet for a sweet camera bag! Any suggestions?

Can you tell I am to the moon excited? ‘Cause I totally am. Totally.

Chicago Is the Town of BFF’s

This weekend was my birthday. Yes, yes…I turned the big 32 on Saturday. To celebrate, my best friend and my husband arranged for a fun-filled weekend in Chicago! We arrived Friday evening after dropping Eddie off with my parents. It was pretty hard to leave him behind for a whole weekend, but he was great for my mom and dad and Cort and I had a TON of fun!

Cortney got us a suite at the Homewood Suites right downtown Chicago. This was our view.
Saturday morning, Tonya and Jeremy met us at our hotel and we took the train to meet Trisha, Ben, and Jordan for some lunch. I was excited to see my birthday date!
After lunch the four ladies went and got manicures and pedicures. Then we met the boys back for a cocktail.
On our way back to the train, I met a new friend.
Bye, bye Visels! See you all back for dinner tonight!
For dinner we went to a YUMMY restaurant called Carnivale. It was Brazilian, Pan-American sort of food. It was so festive I felt like I was dining inside a samba dance!

This was the ceiling….see what I mean?

So great! It was dinner AND an experience! There was just so much to look at!
mmmm! and their passionfruit margaritas weren’t bad either! YUM!

Jeremy enjoyed the cocktails too!

So much fun due to the great planning of my Best Friend: Tonya! She is the greatest!

And this guy did a great job making plans too! We had such a wonderful time!

Cortney and I both ordered the 12 ounce New York strip. I am fairly certain this was the yummiest steak I have EVER had in my LIFE!

For dessert (of course we all had dessert even though we could barely finish our meals), we got an order of churros…
AND a pineapple split. Yes, it was just as tasty as it looks–which is ridiculously tasty!

Once again, I LOVE this girl! She certainly knows how to make me happy on my birthday!
Oh, our waitress was pretty awesome too–she brought me a birthday cake with a candle! Yeah!

These ladies are some of the greatest friends EVER! They made my day so dang happy!
We all had such a super time–I hope we can do it again sometime!
After dinner we went for cocktails at a nice bar near our hotel called Rock Bottom. We shared laughs and stories and so much fun! Afterward, Cort and I parted ways from our friends and walked hand-in-hand back to our hotel.
Sunday we left the Windy City and headed back home to our wee one. It was such an amazing weekend, but we were happy to reunite as a family back home! Thanks to everyone for the great birthday!!!

Just as Long on the Outside as on the Inside

Yup, that is what Cortney told Eddie today: “you’ve been on the outside now just about as long as you were on the inside.” You know, since Eddie turned NINE months today!

Our little Eddie Bear gets a bigger and bigger personality as his little life goes on…
As you can tell, he isn’t just crawling around, he can also pull himself quite easily to standing near objects now and sit back down readily as well.
He is in to EVERYTHING in our house too! He has discovered everything from the wii remotes to the littlest fuzzy on the floor–and promptly put them all in his mouth.
He has also learned the word, “no”. He knows EXACTLY what it means. He doesn’t always obey–and quite a few little patties have been spanked–but he knows.
He’s had his top tooth try to pop through, and then the gum cover it back up. We are waiting patiently for those little buggers. In the meantime he eats all kinds of snacks and finger foods along with a hefty load of fruits and veggies each day.
Did I mention he is inquisitive? Everything is interesting to him–especially things he can’t have–like electronics. Hmmm…Cortney likes electronics and gadgets too…
And when we tell him, “Edward Steven! No!” He backs away and pouts for a minute. Hmmmm….his momma pouts on occasion. I guess he is a pretty good mix!
This guy is “talking” up a storm too! He says, da da da da when he is happy and maaaa maaaa maaaa when he is sad. Lovely. He is also starting to get upset when someone leaves him–so we have a wee bit of separation anxiety going on. But as you can probably tell, for the most part, he is one happy little boy! And we love that goofy smile so very much!

I Just Can’t Help It….

I love this boy’s tootsies!

Waiting For the World

It’s Not All Cute…

I know it’s hard to believe when you look at this little face, but not all his phases are so cute.
Sure he’s adorable even with a boo boo on his forehead where he face planted into the wall…

And he’s even pretty adorable when he is eating puzzle pieces….

And sitting in a laundry basket is a classic Cute Baby Picture to share with future girlfriends….

And seriously, how can you resist such a handsome little Tiger fan?

But…lately…that cute little guy turns into a BEAR at night. There are a few things that are going on with our wee one.

First, he is teething. Those top teeth have been nothing but trouble-makers for our little guy, and lately they are driving him crazy. Today he was even having a hard time eating his bottle.

On top of that the separation anxiety that kicks in around the nine month has hit our buddy. He cries all night unless he is held. He even cried at his grandma and grandpa’s when he was dropped off this past Tuesday night. He sat himself by the door Cort left from and bawled.

Now, we think Eddie has a yucky cold or something. After a walk yesterday, his eye started watering and his nose started running and he has been coughing and sneezing.

It’s hard to tell what all is going on with him, but we think we narrowed the problem to the above tri-fector: teething, separation anxiety, and a little bit of sick.

It all adds up to long nights and not a ton of sleep for us around here.

I know that sounds like it would be the worst thing ever, and sometimes we have a little pity party for ourselves and pretend like it is.

But…..

then….in the morning….

we wake up to this guy peeking out at us with a big smile on his face, and all the turmoil from the night before is forgotten.

We go about our day playing and laughing…

Until the evening when we cuddle up and hope for a better night. It’s not all cute, but it’s not all bad, either.

First Walk of Spring

This week the weather was beautiful here in Michigan! We had sun, sun, and more sun! So Cortney decided it was time to take Eddie out for their first walk of spring.

Even though it was in the low 50’s, it was a little breezy and still pretty chilly for our wee one, so Cort made sure to bundle Eddie up really well!

Apparently walks still do for Eddie what they did last summer–knock him right out. Cort noticed a little tension on the harness, and then realized it was because Ed was leaned forward sound asleep.
Don’t worry, Eddie. You have lots of walks ahead of you this spring/summer to be awake for!
