I Am

I am a wife, mother, teacher, believer.
I wonder about big things like life and death and the possibility of eternity.
I hear the many names I am called and I wonder which one is truest.

I see myself in my children.
I want to save every child, starting with my own, from having to feel hurt or dumb or not enough.
I am a feeler and a thinker.

I pretend to be the best.
I feel inadequate most of the time.
I touch lives and minds.
I worry that I will never completely fulfill my potential…or read all the books.
I cry in laughter, frustration, and sadness.
I am an actress.

I understand that doubt is ok.
I say “I love you” frequently.
I dream of a day when love will win.
I try to walk the path I talk.
I hope I am not letting you down.
I am a work in progress.

Old School Random

Charlie turned two yesterday. There was poop on the floor, Red Robin meltdowns, cake, and a gift. Tomorrow we have his party with our family.

I’m sure I’ll do a huge photo post on Monday, but for now, my brain needs a break from trying to wrap itself around the fact that the BABY of the family is TWO.

So Old School Blogging comes at a perfect time this month. Elaine and her co-host of the month, Kim are back with a slew of random questions. I can remember getting surveys like this in emails back in college and I could never say no to a good survey. It’s fun and easy and it’s always fun to read other people’s answers.

So here we go…

What is the last thing you watched on TV?

I’m watching TV right now. Ok maybe I’m playing fast and loose with the word “watching”. The TV is always on in our house. Currently The Big Bang Theory is on because it’s always on somewhere.

When did you last step outside? What were you doing?

I was getting out of the car after Charlie’s birthday dinner at Red Robin. I don’t want to talk about it yet.  Yes, it was that bad.

Let's just say it went downhill from here. That look on his face should have been all the foreshadowing we needed.

Let’s just say it went downhill from here. That look on his face should have been all the foreshadowing we needed.

What is on the walls of the room you are in?

I’m in my living room where I have photos, photos, and more photos on the wall. Cortney would make the argument that I may be photo crazy. I have a really hard time covering up old photos with new ones because I still love the old ones so much, so our walls just get fuller and fuller.

If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy?

The first thing I would do is pay off all our debt. I know, I know. That is such a GROWNUP thing to say.

So if I didn’t have the adult voice in my head telling me to be responsible, I would totally buy myself a brand new vehicle. Then I would buy Cortney a brand new vehicle. And then we would go on vacation to somewhere warm and all inclusive, because we have never done that before.

Oh, and I would buy the world a Coke. Naturally.

Tell me something about you that most people don’t know.

Most people don’t peg me for one who swears much. I keep it clean in the classroom, here, and in public. But just ask Cortney or any of my friends who have known me a while. It can get ridiculous. Sorry mom. You DID teach me better.

Who made the last incoming call on your phone?

Cortney was the last person to call my phone because I couldn’t find it, so he called it. But I had it on silent so that didn’t help.

The last legit call was from the salon last week confirming my last Friday appointment.

I don’t get many calls.

And I like it that way.

If you could change something about your home, without worry about expense or mess, what would you do?

I would tear it down and build a new one.

On a different lot.

Somewhere else.

What was the last thing you bought?

The last thing we paid for was the dinner at Red Robin that no one enjoyed. Actually, I think Eddie enjoyed it. He ate all his food and was very sad we had to leave instead of having Charlie be sung to and handed an ice cream sundae.

The last thing I bought on my own was some new books for Eddie.

Would you go bungee jumping or sky diving?

If you could eat lunch with one famous person, who would it be?

I never know how to answer this question. Because honestly I would probably be way too nervous to enjoy it whomever it was. And if it was the first time I met this famous person, I would blank and not ask them anything for fear they would just be annoyed. And why would they confide in me anyway? Or why would they give me advice? Just some random person they are having ONE lunch with?

See. I am too anxiety-ridden for this question.

Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?

Probably Gap Outlet. Not because I have a love affair with it, but because I can usually find cute stuff there for a good price.

Otherwise if Zulily counts as a “store”, I would go with that.

Is the glass half empty or half full?

Well this depends. Was it an empty glass that you only filled halfway? Because then it’s half full. Or was it a full glass that you drank half of? Because then it’s half empty.

I’m going to assume it’s half empty with the possibility of getting a refill.

What’s the farthest-away place you’ve been?

Seattle, Washington with Cortney the year after we got married.

Having a drink at the Experience Music Project in Seattle.

Having a drink at the Experience Music Project in Seattle.

What’s under your bed?

Tons of dust and some random picture frames and my shoe thingy for off-season shoes.

But mostly dust bunnies.

What is your favorite time of the day?

When everyone is together getting along nicely. Whatever time that happens, that is my favorite.

What inspires you?

People doing good things.

People being stronger than their circumstances.

A good sermon.

Cortney’s unfailing support.

My boys.

My mom and dad.

Old School Valentine

This month’s Old School Blogging (with the lovely Elaine and her co-host Tamara) is all about Valentine’s Day. My heart doesn’t really get all aflutter with the prospect of that Hallmark Holiday coming up, but there are fun parts, so I thought I would play along.

How do you typically celebrate Valentine’s Day?

I wouldn’t say what we do qualifies as “celebrating.” Sometimes Cortney and I will get each other a card or something, but it’s only if the spirit moves us. Neither of us really expect anything different from Valentine’s Day than any other day of the year.

Since having kids, though, I do like to get cutesy about love. We will probably make some heart-shaped cookies to share with our friends (because we love them) and Eddie and Charlie will each get a heart-shaped box of candy and I will make red jello for dessert on Friday.

Do you like to get A) chocolates  B) flowers  C) a sweet card or  D) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

I like all of these things any day of the year…maybe not all at the same time. Oh who am I kidding, it’s not like I would turn any of them away!

Would you consider yourself a “cuddler”?  If not, would you at least cuddle on Valentine’s Day?

No. I am not a cuddler. In fact, my personal bubble is rather large. I do like to cuddle with my kids and I’ve been known to stretch out with my feet in Cortney’s lap, but I don’t like to be touched when I am falling asleep or hugged on when I am doing something else.  No exceptions for Valentine’s Day either!

What is your favorite movie about love or with a love story?

It is hands down When A Man Loves A Woman. I am not much for chick flicks, but this one…oh it gets me feeling all the feels.

Do you believe in “love at first sight”?  Did it happen to you?

Yes. It happened with both of my boys. The first time I saw both of them I was theirs forever.

Do you believe love can conquer all things

Yes and No. Love alone will not, as the Captain and Tennille claimed, “keep us together”. More had to go into relationships than just love.

I side more with Sonny and Cher when they said, “they say our love won’t pay the rent.”

That all being said, I do believe love erases hate. Living your life for love rather than hate heals more than what you will ever know in your life time.

What is ONE of the main things you love about your S.O.(significant other)

There are lots of things, but one thing I love most about him is that he truly sees our partnership–our family–as a team effort. No one keeps track of what they are “owed”. You support the team. No matter what. Because of his attitude, I never feel alone or like I am in this by myself.

If you could have the perfect Valentine date what would you and your loved one do?

I’ve never had a “perfect” Valentine Date. I guess it wouldn’t be that much different than just a perfect date…a good movie, a box of popcorn, and a nice dinner after.  Then home to our sleeping kids.

Tell me about your first crush!

Oh my.  I think my very first crush was on a boy  named Chris when we were in the fourth grade. It was the typical story of boy and girl are meanish to each other because they like each other.  Like when he threw a magnet at me and I told him his Bart Simpson sweatshirt was stupid. Oh young love.

Do you have any embarrassing or horror dating stories?

I’ve dated some winners, that’s for sure. Probably one of the lamest thing that ever happened to me was on Valentines Day. A guy I had a crush on in college, and who worked with me in the dorm cafeteria, asked me out for Valentines Day. He picked me up at my dorm ten minutes late, didn’t have a reservation anywhere, so we ended up waiting over an hour at Applebees of all places. Then he stopped at the liquor store on the way back to my dorm for a six-pack (he was 21. I was just shy of 19). He proceeded to drink two of the beers while we watched MTV and then he fell asleep on my floor.

Yeah, we didn’t go out again.

Favorite flower?

yellow tulips.

What’s the first type of chocolate you hope for when you reach into a box of chocolates?

something with caramel in it.

Favorite love song?

“Future Days” by Pearl Jam

What is the best breakup song?

“Song for the Dumped” by Bens Fold Five

Favorite celebrity couple?

I love me some Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.

Overall, are you pro- or anti- Valentine’s Day

I’m pro-love. I don’t need Valentine’s Day for that, but it’s fun for the kiddos.

If someone did that “Say Anything” boombox thing outside your window, would you be into it, or call the police?

Totally all in. Because John Cusack.

First thing you notice about the objects of your affection.

“Objects of Affection” is cheesy, but if we are talking about Cortney, the first thing I notice each day is how he never fails to make me my two fried eggs. He wants to make sure I start my day with some protein in my tummy.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten for Valentine’s Day?

IMG_4152I don’t know about gifts, but the year my best friend, Tonya, was in town and my dinner dates that night were Tonya and her husband Jeremy, Cortney, Tonya’s sister (my friend, Tammi), and my little Eddie.  That was a great Valentine’s Day.

And not just because Cortney bought us a Snicker’s ice cream pie to split.

I don’t know what tomorrow will bring for me, but I do know all three of my boys will get surprises from me…because I love them sort of a lot.

What are your feelings about Valentines Day?

The 12 Questions of Christmas

I’m linking up with Elaine and Kir today for some Old School Blogging!  This month the questions all have to do with the holidays…something we are SO excited about here in Sluiter Nation.

First things first: 1 Holy Night or 8 Crazy Ones? (Do you Celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, both?)

We celebrate Christmas in Sluiter Nation, but we do it about eight times, so does that count as eight crazy nights? We are all about seeing as many of our friends and family as we possibly can this time of year while still getting some quiet, lovely time with just our family.

Peppermint or Chocolate?

If had to choose between the two, I pick chocolate, BUT because it’s CHRISTMAS many times they are combined which is one of my favorite things EVER!

Sing us into the Holiday Season, what is your favorite Carol this time of year?

I will admit that one of my favorite Christmas songs is one of the top most ANNOYING song for most people: Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmas Time”. I don’t know if I love it because it’s catchy and so much of an earworm, of if I love it because it bothers everyone else. Either way, BOOM!  I also love John Lennon’s “So This is Christmas”. Maybe I just like the Beatles.
Tell us about a Favorite Family or Personal Holiday Tradition?

We actually have tons of traditions, but one of my favorites is making Christmas cookies with my family. Ever since I was small, my family has been doing it. It used to be a Sunday afternoon at my Grandma’s house with my aunts and all my cousins. When Grandma couldn’t do it anymore, my mom would do it at our house with me and my brothers. As we all started to get married, spouses came along and contributed. Then our kids. Now it is a full blown tradition! And we make a LOT of cookies.

C’mon you remember your favorite  (Christmas, Hanukkah) gift, tell us all about it:

I don’t really remember any particular Christmas present that stands out as BEST EVER. Although, nine years ago this month, my first nephew was born four days before Christmas.  That was a pretty awesome gift.
That magical moment? (Your favorite scene was a Holiday movie..it’s okay if you have 2)

All of the scenes in A Christmas Story. Best holiday movie ever. It is not even up for discussion.

Kissing under the mistletoe? Who do you hope is standing underneath(We know it’s normally your spouse, if it didn’t have to be, who would you choose?)

Even if it didn’t have to be, I would still choose Cortney every day ending in “y”. I know…cue the Mush Police, but it’s the truth, yo.

Swans a swimming, lords a leaping, golden rings; which gift of the 12 days of Christmas would you like most?

The only quiet thing on the list is the golden rings, so I’ll take those. If anyone gives me birds for Christmas I will put a bounty on their head.

Play Secret Santa, what inappropriate gift would you love to give this year?

I have a few students I would give the gift of modesty to.

Martha Stewart or the Grinch? What is your decorating style? (Pictures would be awesome!)

I would consider myself more like the family on A Christmas Story. I’m DEFINITELY not Martha Stewart and I’m not a Grinch. Christmas sort of vomits on our house.

What is ONE WORD that defines the holiday season for you? (Examples: Believe/Wonder/Bah Humbug?)

Joy. Definitely Joy.

If Santa could assure its delivery, what’s the first thing on your CHRISTMAS LIST?

For myself, I would wish for a bigger house where I could have my own office/work room and more closet/storage space.  For others, I wish for one more day with some they love that has gone on to heaven.

What about you? Do you have the holiday spirit bubbling inside of you waiting to vomit all over your blog? Then come link up!

Old School Like Old School

I have about half a zillion things I should be doing, BUT Elaine from The Miss Elaine-ous Life (click that and check out her new digs, yo.) has brought back Old School Blogging with her co-host Brittany from That’s Vandy. And it’s a good one all the way from 2008!  You remember those surveys, yes?
Yay!  Me too! So here is a bunch of useless information about me that you never cared to know:
Where is your cell phone?  Next to me on the arm of the chair. It’s almost never out of arm-reach except at night when it’s on the charger. I feel like maybe that is a bit of an addiction problem.
Your significant other?  That would be Cortney. He’s downstairs putting Eddie to bed. Actually, he’s probably asleep in Eddie’s bed by now.
Your hair?  We covered this yesterday. Although I also just got it cut and colored on Friday, including getting bangs, so I’m feeling pretty young and hip right now.
Your mother?  Is the best. We email each other every week. When we don’t, we worry about each other.
Your father?  Also the best. He’s deer hunting right now.
Your favorite thing?  Watching all three of my boys be happy. Their laughter cures so many ills.
Your dream last night?  I really don’t remember, although Saturday night I had a dream that our house’s floor plan was different. That was all sorts of awesome. Although I was trying to fit painting the bathroom in about 10 minutes before the floor guys showed up and Cort was yelling at me to just let it go.  Huh.
Your favorite drink?  My  newest obsession is hot green tea. I love it.
Your dream/goal?  To build the house we will grow old in.
The room you are in?  In my chair in the living room. Which means if I stretch my right arm out far enough I am in the kitchen, and if I lean back I’m in the dining area (yeah, not room…area).  Did I say I would like a new house someday?
Your fear?  Failure as a parent. Failure as a wife. Failure as a friend. Failure as a…pretty much any role I am to anyone. I don’t want to let people down. I am also afraid of drowning.  Actually death in general.
Where do you want to be in six years?  In my 40’s, done having babies, and in the process of building a house/moving (or done with it if things get really good in the next year or so).
Where were you last night?  My favorite place: home.
What are you not?  punctual, calm, good at social events
Muffins?  Of course.  Muffin Top? I’d rather not.
One of your wish list items? I think we’ve established I want a new house, so other than that I want a good book to read once the snow starts to blow around here.
Where you grew up?  Less than five miles from where I am typing this: Zeeland, Michigan. I’m a small-town girl by birth and by choice.
The last thing you did?  Put Charlie to bed. I like putting my boys to bed…both of them. It’s special for different reasons. When I put Charlie to bed he snuggle-kisses me before I lay him down, and then I get to listen to him laugh and play with his stuffies before he falls asleep. It’s sweetness.
What are you wearing? This seems like sort of a dirty question for some reason, but I’ll bite: I have on my jammies, my robe, and socks.
Your TV?  Gets way too much action, mostly from the kids. Our TiVo is over-run with kids shows.
Your pets?  Not anymore. We had a cat named Louis. He died two years ago at age seventeen and a half. Then we had a series of fish. Let’s just say they didn’t work out.  No more pets are on the horizon.
Your computer? Which one? Oh man that sounds bad. But when you’re married to a tech geek you tend to accidentally live in a computer lab/graveyard. Once I mentioned my printer at school died and that they weren’t providing them to us anymore. A printer materialized. We have a desk top, each have a lap top, we have an old lap top that Eddie uses for games, and I have a Chromebook from work. Plus my desk top at work, Cort’s tablet, and my Nook Color. And I am sure there are computer parts waiting to be Frankensteined somewhere.
Your life?  Boom.
Your mood?  Chronically tired, but happy.
Missing someone?  I miss my best friend, Tonya. I wish I had more time to go visit her.
Your car? 2007 Saturn Vue. And it’s red and shiny.
Something you are not wearing?  Since I’m ready for bed I’m not wearing make-up…or a bra.
Favorite store? Barnes & Noble
Your summer?  is gone with the wind…wait, that’s Tuesday.  Summer is always bittersweet. We try to do ALL THE FUN THINGS and end up being sad about being so busy. We are homebodies, and we wish for more carefree time in our summers.
Like someone?  Does this mean DO I like someone or AM I like someone? I like lots of people. I’m just like Eddie. Or rather, he is just like me.
Your favorite color?  orange
When was the last time you laughed?  Just now when Cortney came upstairs. Not much time passes when we are in the same room and laughter doesn’t happen.
Last time you cried?  This morning I got all sniffly watching the Today Show’s coverage of the damage and destruction of Sunday’s storms.
What is one thing on your to-do list?  Grading and Planning. Those things are perpetually on my To Do List until June.

Your turn! Just copy and past this survey into a new blog post and fill in your own answers…and don’t forget to link up over at Elaine’s!

Five Favorites on a Friday

It’s Friday.

It’s been a rough week here in Sluiter Nation.  Eddie has been fighting something and has to miss out on school and fun this week. It’s so hard to see my buddy feeling like garbage.

I’ve also felt incredibly overwhelmed this week.

But it’s Friday now and we can hope the weekend will bring healing and rejuvenation for our little family, right?  And I am going to kick it off with a HAPPY blog post!  One that shares some love with some people I love.

This month’s Old School Blogging Meme (hosted by Elaine and Tracy) is the one where we share five bloggers we love.  Even though my blog-reading time has been severely slashed lately, there are a few bloggers out there I always catch up on…even if I am reading MONTHS of posts at a time.

Letters for Lucas

Tonya is one of the very best things/people/happy that the internet has blessed me with. I read her blog for a long time, but meeting (and rooming with) her at BlogHer11 sealed our friendship. Our oldest boys are the same age and we just have so much in common. I am in love with the way she shares so openly and rawly about her battles with infertility, the deaths of her parents, and just every day mom stuff. I can honestly say that Tonya is one of my best blogging friends.

The Posma Family

Every now and then God drops a special person in your life…one you don’t know that you want or need, but as soon as she is there, you find yourself thanking Him for her. Kelsey is that person to me. She is my neighbor, but until this past year, we didn’t really know each other.  She was the one who took the first step. And I give her heaps of credit because my introverted self is a hard one to get through. She was persistence that we have play dates and she invited us into her home for neighborhood/friend BBQs and birthday parties. I am so glad she did. Our sons are great friends now, and I always know I have someone praying for me. I hope she knows I am praying for her and her family always too.

Late Enough

I love Alex. I have read her blog forever because she shares my heart on so many topics, but she says them in an intelligent, succinct way that I never could. She is hilarious and awkward and kind and wonderful.  I was able to meet her and spend time with her at BlogHer13 this summer and I count it among some of my favorite times from the conference.  I felt so at ease with her…as if we meet up for lunch every week.  That is the mark of a great friend, right there. She blogs about everything from politics to what her cats and dogs are up to.

Buried with Children

I’m noticing that all the bloggers I am listing are people I have met in real life. Jen is no different. Jen and I discovered just over a year ago that we are local to each other. How we did not know this for so long, I have no clue, but I am so happy she is in my REAL life now and not just my computer. Jen and I couldn’t be more different. We roomed together at BlogHer13 this year and she had about three changes of clothes each day…I had one. And all of hers were fabulous. Mine were maxi dresses. However since then, she has inspired me each day to dress so I feel pretty. She is also the one to blame for my new love of Top 40 music. Oh and she is HILARIOUS.

Stepping Stones

MacKenzie is my sister. Well, as close to a sister as I will ever have. She is actually Cortney’s sister, but since neither of us have our own biological sister, and we are sisters-in-law anyway, we claim each other as sisters. She is one of the most important women in my life. She blogs about life as a mom to twin boys who are adopted from Ethiopia and being pregnant with their baby brother (due in a MONTH!).  She writes exactly the way she talks, which is why her writing is so good. She is kind and giving and I love her.

So there you go!

According to the rules,  the five of these lovely ladies are now tagged to share their five favorite blogs in a post. But no pressure!

Now tell me…who do  you love to read? Who should I add to my Must Read List?

Old School Blogging…The Fridge Edition

I am so excited to be co-hosting this month’s edition of Old School Blogging with my friend Elaine of The Miss Elaine-ous Life.

This month we want to know what is on your fridge (or in or on top of, whatever).

I giggled when she told me this month’s meme because the front of my fridge is always a train wreck and I will admit this is what it looks like when it’s CLEAN.  Yikes.

Ok, so let’s start.

This is what it looks like:

2013-08-05 15.38.08

Let’s start with the front.

We have numerous pictures that have been sent to us–mostly of kids (some related to us, some not), but there is a school picture of my best friend, Tonya, up there.  She’s a teacher and so she gets pictures every year too, so of course  I have it on the fridge.

I also throw birth announcements up there. Currently the same Tonya’s new little man, William, has a prime piece of real estate right there by the handle to the freezer.

Then there are the millions of magnets.  Sluiters apparently cannot say no to a tacky magnet, so there they are. They range from the ones Cortney has gotten from bowling (they do this instead of patches now, I guess? Weird.) to homemade ones (the scibbled Noah’s Ark) to souvenirs (the buffalo butt from Wall Drug in SD).

Then there is our “All Out Of” notepad.  I won one of these years back in a blog giveaway and we loved it so much we have reordered a zillion time.  Next to that is our menu for the week.

We also have a letter opener, the poem “Footsteps”, some chip clips, a couple comic strips, the non-emergency number for the county cops, and a coupon for a free donut hanging up there.

Oh, and two magnet toy things: a barn thing and an ABC thing…without the magnets that go in them because I got so sick of stepping all over them on my kitchen floor that I put them in a baggie and threw them in the toy room downstairs.  What?

The top of the fridge is like a collection area for all things that no one knows what to do with, but aren’t ready to dump yet.

We have crafts from Bible School and daycare shoved up there, wii remotes so Charlie can’t reach them, the candle that used to be in the center of the kitchen table but that Charlie kept grabbing for, a pile of movies, m&ms, Boogie Wipes, my purse, the bill basket, and some unidentified crap.

And yes, I said the fridge is CLEAN right now.

Ok your turn! Let’s see your fridge! I doubt anyone has as much crap junk stuff as I do, but I’ll let you try.

Post a picture and link up!

As Easy as ABC

Remember getting emails with the surveys that you needed to fill out and send to all your friends?  Yes?  Well apparently the blogging world did the surveys too (who know? Not me…I was blogging, but I had no idea other people were blogging). All of this brings back memories of being recently graduated from WMU and getting the latest survey forwarded to me with my witty friends’ responses.

Because retro is sooo “in” right now, a bloggy friend or two of mine have brought back the surveys in a blogging meme called Old School Blogging.  I have resisted up until now, but as my friends from college know, I simply cannot resist a good survey for long.  So here goes…

Alphabet Meme

A. Attached or Single? I prefer Kraft SINGLES since I have never heard of Kraft ATTACHES.

B. Best Friend? the guy at Starbucks who is not too chipper, and always does the whip cream just right with the perfect amount of caramel swirl on my frap.

C. Cake or pie? Let them eat cake!

D. Day of choice? Tomorrow

E. Essential Item? a private, flushing toilet.  This may be related to why I don’t camp.

F. Favorite color? yellow. It’s the color of cheese…and of happy.  Yes, those are related.

G. Gummy bears or worms? Neither. I don’t like gummy bears and I sure don’t like worms. Blech.

H. Hometown? Zeeland, Mi or as we called it in college, StinkTown

I. Favorite Indulgence? Starbucks. I perhaps need to raise my bar a bit.

J. January or July? July. January is for Nazis.  Just kidding, but it’s cold and snowy and stupid.  July means no school and swimming. It’s an obvious choice.

K. Kids? Why yes…two freakishly handsome sons.

Eddie and Charlie both at 15 months

Eddie and Charlie both at 15 months

L. Life isn’t complete without? Words. Written, spoken, whatever. Words are my air.

M. Marriage date? June 18, 2005. We are coming on 8 years.  Or as I like to say, Gr8 Years! (Cort does NOT join me in loving to say that)

N. Number of brothers/sisters? Two wiener brothers that are mine because my parents thought they could replicate the awesome that is me.  They failed.  Obviously.  Luckily they weren’t such wieners that they didn’t give me two awesome sisters-in-law whom I consider my sisters.  And because Cort is so generous, he bequeathed his sister and brother upon me and they, in turn, picked awesome spouces to add another brother and sister to the group.  So if you’re keeping track at home, that’s four sisters, and four brothers (two of those being wieners. Don’t worry, I can say that, they never read my blog anyway.  Hurumph).

my wiener brothers

my wiener brothers

O. Oranges or Apples. Apples for eatin’, Oranges for drinkin’.

P. Phobias? I can’t even get started on this. I have anxiety, remember? Life (and consequently Death) are my phobias.

Q. Quotes? There’s a beverage here, man.” ~The Big Lewbowski also “1.21 gigawatts?” ~Back to the Future.  I am sure I like some that are actually meaningful too, but we say these things a lot around the house.  We also ask each other if we have dry mouth a lot. I blame a terrible commercial for that one.

R. Reasons to smile?  I’m alive and if I open my eyes, there are more things to smile about than frown about. Also foot rubs. Those make me smile every time.
S. Season of choice? You would think I would say summer here, and while I do love to spray my kids with the hose, fall will always be my favorite.

T. Tag 5 People. Cortney, Todd, Phil, Mat, and Erin. They always had the best answers to these…especially Todd.  But only Cort blogs and since I’m pretty sure he hasn’t cracked open his dashboard since last summer, I’m not going to expect any one of the to actually do this.

U. Unknown fact about me? In 12th grade I applied to, was accepted to, and toured Hope College (a small Christian college in my town) with the idea that I would go there and be pre-law. Thank GOODNESS I didn’t pursue that.

V. Vegetable? No, I am not a vegetable, but if I do become one, Cort has my permission to pull the plug.

W. Worst habit? snapping at my loved ones.  I forget sometimes that other people have feelings and the world doesn’t revolve around my frustrations.

X. Xray or Ultrasound? I’ve had both, yes. Do I prefer one? Well, I would rather have an xray than an internal ultrasound, that’s for sure. It’s less…violating. Any procedure that requires a condom is not my favorite.

utrasound with Eddie

ultrasound of Eddie

Y. Your favorite food? Mexican Food.  Any of it. All the time. Comida Mexicana for the win, yo.

Z. Zodiac sign? Aries.  The Ram. Fire Sign.  Not that I believe in all that hooey, but I am a typical Aries.  Also I have the ram tattooed on my neck since the design I got also means “Woman” in Egyptian Hieroglyphics because it’s shaped like a womb.

So there you go.  Did you learn anything fascinating about me?

Probably not, but it was a fun way to give you some of the most random things you never wanted to know about me.
