Charlie Krat

Charlie has never cared about the TV. He is the complete opposite of his brother in that regard.

If a TV is on, Eddie’s life pauses and he will sit directly in front of the boob tube and get immersed in anything that is on it.  He will even get into the news and ask questions and talk about what is on.

We have to be careful about what is on when he is around.

Charlie has never, ever cared.

If the TV is not on, he will point out that it’s not on, but he really doesn’t pay any attention to what is on it.

At two, we could turn on PBS and Eddie would be good for hours (if we let him…not that we ever did that. Ahem). Charlie will sit and watch Curious George or Octonauts before bed if he’s REALLY tired. Otherwise he just plays.

There is one show, however, that we noticed that Charlie has fallen in love with: Wild Krats.

Or Krat Krats, as he calls it.

You should know that Charlie is in love with all animals. All of them.

His favorite books are any book that requires pointing out animals and what they say.  Brown Bear, Brown Bear is in HEAVY rotation right now.

We are home between 5:00 and 5:15pm every day after school/work/daycare, and every day at 5:30pm, Charlie shouts “KRAT KRATS!” from wherever he is the second an animal appears on our TV.

He’s pretty uninterested in the actual cartoon part of the show, but the parts with the actual Krat brothers showing animals? He squeals and laughs and points and get so excited!

Always after school: Eddie on the tablet and Charlie watching "Krat Krats" while I make dinner.

We recently discovered that Netflix has Wild Krats.

It is impossible to scroll through the options without Charlie seeing those animated brothers and yelling “KRAT KRATS!” In fact, if that is not what Eddie is choosing (Ninjago is on his fave list right now), Charlie generally has a fit. Luckily, we can get Netflix on every TV in the house thanks to the Tivo, the Wii, and the Roku, so Charlie can watch in another room.

What are your kids watching lately?

Disclosure: I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team and will be sharing monthly tips and stories about how my family uses Netflix on a regular basis. As a member of the Stream Team I was provided with a Roku and a voucher to apply towards my Netflix account. I was not otherwise compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.

Just a small town girl...wait no. That is a Journey song. Katie Sluiter is a small town girl, but she is far from living in a lonely world. She is a middle school English teacher, writer, mother, and wife. Life has thrown her a fair share of challenges, but her belief is that writing through them makes her stronger.

  1. My boys are the same Landon is completely motivated by TV. Ollie couldn’t care less. But he loves music videos! I got him into the Muppets theme from OK go and then Keep Fishin from Weezer so yesterday he got into The Muppet Movie for change of pace. Landon is into Clone Wars, Batman, Super Hero Squad. So. Damn. 4.

  2. I just recently heard about this show and fully intend on getting Gio to watch it, because I know he’s going to love it. And we have Netflix on our Roku so when I’m not jonsing and rewatching House of Cards , I’ll put it on for him.

Alas, Jacob still loves a good Harry Potter weekend…but maybe I can entice him too 😉

love the pictures of the boys!

  3. We’ve had Netflix for a while and so far my daughter has just been watching TV Series – I heard that House of Cards is really good, so I want to start watching!

  4. My kids used to love watching the Krat brothers when they were Charlie and Eddie’s ages.
So this makes me TREMENDOUSLY happy…to know those cute boys are still bringing joy to people.
(The Krat boys AND your boys 🙂

  5. Aww this post takes me back! My oldest–who is nearly 13 was OBSESSED with the Kratt brothers. He lobbied heavily to name his sister Chrisandmartinkratt.

  6. Lucas loves Wild Kratts and who doesn’t love Netflix!! Holy binge watching, Batman!!

  7. My boys are the same way – Monkey (4) loves watching TV. Scrumps (nearly 2) doesn’t really care. Though he’s now into YouTube videos of whatever has wheels in them – cars, bikes, trucks, buses etc. The dude’s obsessed!

Love that Charlie calls them Krats Krats, heh.

  8. I love “Krat Krats!” Wild Kratts was really popular at our house a while back, but lately my guys are all about the Pokémon on Netflix. 🙂

  9. My kids are all about Sponge Bob lately. And I just DO NOT GET IT. ;0

    Love that pic!

  10. I have to admit to kind of adoring how Netflix has been giving my children an ability to vocalize the difference in their opinions and desires. My youngest’s curret favourite is anything “choo choo”.

  11. My daughter loves Total Drama Island, which is a cartoon version of Survivor. She watches and rewatches every episode of this show on her iPod. If the real Survivor is on TV, she will watch that. She also adores My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic, but I think that’s a secret. My son watches whatever video game he’s playing.

  12. Oh my gosh I LOVE them!! Charlie – you are my TV buddy — I could watch Krat Krats will you ALL DAY.
Unfortunately we don’t have that show on the Canadian version of Netflix…..but let me just say this buddy: Zoobomafoo!!
That’s their earlier show and it shows WAY more animals. It’s not a cartoon, so you get those – easy on the eyes – (that’s what we writers call an “aside” dude, and it’s for your mom) brothers live.
Also, theme song? Most giantest earworm ever. Tell mom to google for ya, m’kay?

Until I can get their new show in the line up; I’ll be over here watching House of Cards.
