Red, White, and Cool

Hey America,

We started your birthday party a bit early…as in the night before.

I hope that was Ok.

Eddie got over his fear of fireworks this year..sort of.

He didn’t like holding the sparkler. He just wanted to watch.

And yes, my little boy IS wearing crab jammie pants. Jealous?

I helped make these for your birthday, ‘Murica.

And then I ate two. They were tasty.

And like any good birthday celebration, we played cards into the wee hours of the night.

Cort especially had fun kicking all of our butts.

On your actual birthday, we packed up the family for our annual beach day with friends.

As you can tell, Eddie and I were super pumped for beach fun.

Charlie’s first beach experience was a raving success.

That kid played on the beach for almost four hours.

And even though the water was a chilly 50-something, Eddie still went in up to his shoulders.

And I taught him to pee in the lake.

It was a fun AND educational celebration.

After a yummy grill out with friends, we let the food settle with a lot of sitting around.

Well, some of us let our food settle.

Not Eddie or Charlie.

Clearly.

Despite the cranky-looking faces, these Sluiters had a mega-great time celebrating you, U S of A.

They just didn’t want to be contained for a nice picture.

They wanted to move it and shake it!

When we got home, Charlie was practically asleep since it was almost 9pm.

But we let Eddie stay up and watch the fireworks that daddy bought.

They were pretty lame.

But the neighbors had cool ones.

For all the crabbing I do, ‘Murica, I love you.

Happy Birthday, Old Girl.

I wouldn’t want to live in any other country in the world.

  1. Eddie has the best expressions!
Glad you guys had an amazing day, I love the red, white and blue ensembles.

  2. Now I’m kind of sad that we didn’t go do anything fun.

    • We always do the same thing…but this year it was more fun because it wasn’t so damn hot (last year Charlie was an infant and melted into the blanket I had on the grass), and the boys can now play together nice so we can sit on our booties and drink beer. wait. what?

  3. The pictures of you and Eddie are too much! My kids would adore the beach. Sigh. Sounds like you had a great few days!!
