Because Comparing is Fun

Today was…exhausting.

I must have lifted and moved 3534759837 boxes and text books and novels in my new classroom.  And I am only about half done with the set up process.

All I can think about is how much I missed my boys today and how I have to do this all over again tomorrow.  And next week. And every week day from now until Thanksgiving break.

I’m not whining; it’s just a big adjustment for my body, soul, mind, and heart.

To cheer myself up, I looked at some pictures of me and Cort when we were the same age as our boys are.

It made me smile through my weariness, so I thought I would share.

Charlie 3 months, Eddie almost 3 years.

Cort around 3 years, his sister MacKenzie around 3 months

my brother Chris around 3 months, me around 3 years

Eddie around 2.5 years old.

me at 2 years old

Cort somewhere around 2 or 3 years old

I don’t have any baby pictures scanned in to do one of each of us compared to Charlie, but I am sure I will find something eventually.

Because comparing is fun, yo.

About Katie

Just a small town girl...wait no. That is a Journey song. Katie Sluiter is a small town girl, but she is far from living in a lonely world. She is a middle school English teacher, writer, mother, and wife. Life has thrown her a fair share of challenges, but her belief is that writing through them makes her stronger.

  1. It IS fun!!! Cort had such…. BLOND CURLS. Where did those go???

You have the same smile, I like.

I wanna do comparisons too, but my pictures are all in my family home, 2 hours away. Plus I don’t have many. Third child and all, y’know. My eldest brother had albums. I have like 10 pictures.

  2. Congrats on one day down!
Now I gotta run and get curly blond perm like Corts!

  3. I love comparing like this, too – love the old pictures of both of you!
I hope the school days get better. My oldest girl went and helped her old teachers at her elementary school (she’s heading to middle school this year) because the school was being remodeled all summer and they had tons of cleaning and unpacking to do. I think she thought it was much more fun to work on setting up the classrooms than the teachers did!

  4. My favorite one is when you are 2. It proves you’ve ALWAYS been a diva.

  5. So cute! I need to do this. 🙂

  6. What a great idea. I love looking at family photos; they always cheer me up, too.

  7. Comparing IS fun, yo!!!

Also, the outfit you are wearing when you were three… the red one… I had it in yellow and blue.

    Freaking awesome.

  8. Forget those curls…look at Cort’s tricked-out tricycle…

No wonder you fell for him. Dude’s got style.

(p.s. Can you tell I’m waiting for the next installment of your love story? Bated. Breath.)

  9. Oh, I love everything about this post! My sis and I are 8 years apart, but we look alike at similar age comparisons…the same with my 5yo niece. Family photos are great 🙂

  10. Comparing is fun. I love these. It’s awesome to see our children in ourselves, isn’t it? Cool post.
