the sickies…

…our family has ’em.

Well, I should say the sickies are working their way through our family.

I blame Eddie.

I think it all started with him.

He started coughing and hacking weeks ago.  Then Cort started in on the hacking.  It was hack in stereo.

Eddie took the sickies better than Cort did.  Ed would cough and keep on truckin’.

Cort would hack and cough and complain and sleep and cough…until we finally decided he should see the doctor.  You know, just in case.

Yeah, it was a cold.

He took a cough syrup thing and was better in a couple days.

Eddie just kept getting worse.

Until I finally took him to the doctor this past Friday.

The diagnosis?  Allergies.

Um.  What?

You know how you KNOW your kid, and although a professional whom you trust completely may tell you one thing, in your head and heart you are pretty sure that that thing is wrong?

Yeah.  That.

So then Saturday Eddie got a fever.

And Sunday.

And the antihistamine that the doctor put him on made him into a wack a doo.

So the doctor was called again yesterday and an antibiotic was prescribed.  Since the fever, eye goop, and thick green snot that appeared over the weekend were clues that perhaps this was an infection of some kind.

I wish I could say that after one dose it’s starting to clear up, but he woke up a couple times last night from coughing and needed his eyes de-gooped because they fuse shut.

Poor buddy.

I really hope this antibiotic works.  It breaks my heart to see him so crabby and uncomfortable and tired.

Oh, and now I am snotting and coughing and sore throating.

So there’s that.

None of us have gotten the flu shot either.  Because I am not 100% convinced it’s necessary.

Have the sickies hit your family?

  1. Ugh. I know the wack a doo well. Jamie had to have a sleep study and the doc prescribed something to help him get sleepy. A small percentage of children have the opposite effect. Guess what group Jamie fell into? YUP. The wack a doo one. I feel your pain. (cross posting this same exact comment on your hubby’s blog too because yep, I totally get it.)

  2. oh yes, sickies that sound just like that hit us a couple of months ago. I really hope it’s not the same thing because for us, it lasted weeks, like 6 or 7 weeks. And since I’m all knocked up and shiz I couldn’t really take anything for it, and so I ended up with an ear infection, like a freagin child. And lemme tell you, what I learned from that is it hurts, like an obscene hurt so my kiddo has every right in the world it be crabby if he has an ear infection :p.

  3. Ugh! We’ve just had small colds here. Hoping to avoid the fever sickies a little bit longer (knocks on wood)!

  4. Hope everyone feels better soon!

  5. Hope all is better soon…

Like the new blog look. It’s clean and easy to read.

    well done

  6. Hey, love the new look!

  7. Oh yes they hit us. 5 year old is on her second round of strep in a month, I had brochitis and lost my voice before speaking at BWELA and hubs got strep and ran 103.9 fever for 2 days. It was miserable. My little guy is 3 and has allergies that crust his whole nose over a few times a day and he screams as we clean it out. His skin flares up with scales and rashes and I just want to cuddle him and make it go away.

Thank God, the baby is fine. She doesn’t sleep and we wake up to find her trying on clothes in the middle of the night but hey…at least she is not hacking.

Good luck with your sickies. The sickies suck!

  8. The sickies are awful!! Sorry they found their way to your house, and I hope they move out quickly!

I’m loving your new look. Very cute!

  9. Oh yuck! I hope everyone gets better soon.

My son has had this wicked cough the past few days and today I’ve been sneezing like crazy. I fear the sickes are trying to get in our house, too.

My daughter usually gets a flu shot because she has asthma, but the rest of us don’t. I don’t see the point. I thought every year the strain of the flu changed anyway.

    I LOVE the new look!!

  10. Gotta love the wack a doo. Our pediatrician and everyone on the planet told us all about how DG would be SUPER SLEEPY if we gave her Zyrtec. Ummm… Yeah… Not so much. Thankfully we gave it to her on a Saturday morning because she was bouncing. off. the. walls. It was bizarre how wired she was. She ran up and down our long hallway laughing like a maniac. So we switched her to Claritin and problem was solved. Phew.

    Hope the sickies don’t last!

  11. Oh how I loathe the sickies!!! This time last year was the worst month our family experienced. I hope we and you guys get through the winter without a bad case of anything.

  12. poor Isla has the nose crap going on. i am just so glad it is not green and praying that it stays not green over the holiday weekend! she has her 6 month appt on monday and i really hope she can get her shots. i am still undecided if we should wait a week on the flu shot and do it separate or do it with all of the others. i am not getting the flu shot myself but i would feel horrible, if i didnt get her the flu shot and she got the flu. not that the flu shot will make sure she doesnt get the flu, since i got the shot twice, once pregnant and once not and i got the flu the time i got the shot when i wasnt pregnant. but, now that she is at daycare i feel like i should probably do it.
